Monday, August 21st
- New sterilization product recognized by Staffordshire Business Awards. PFE Medical and Aston University developed this sterilization method to clean lights and camera’s that are normally unable to be sterilized properly. The product called the Khamsin, was able to produce “astonishing results.”
- Ventricular assist device received designation from FDA. The device developed by MagAssist is an interventional VAD that reduces the vascular access and closure process. The device,NyokAssist, features a foldable catheter pump with a small insertion size.
- New light solution has potential to reduce maternal deaths in low income countries. The product developed by d.light provides light to rural health clinics in many that don’t have reliable electricity. With these lights physicians in countries such as Nigeria are able to more safely deliver babies at night.
Tuesday, August 22nd
- Harvard Engineers 3D print heart ventricle. The printed heart was even able to beat rhythmically. This development could allow researchers test new drugs and could lead the way for fully implantable heart components.
- Teleflex adds to family of haemodialysis and large bore catheters. The new expansion includes updates that were inspired by clinicians. It also includes guidelines for ultrasound use and pre-filled sterile syringes.
- New material for knee-replacements received 510(k) clearance. The polyethylene developed by Exactech has a vitamin E antioxidant and doesn’t require gamma sterilization. The material also brings an optimized balance of material strength and toughness.
Wednesday, August 23rd
- Medtronic seeking FDA approval for cardiovascular devices. The company is currently under the review panel for Sympllicity Spyral multi-electrode RDN catheter and Symplicity G3 radiofrequency generator. These devices could help patients reduce blood pressure with uncontrolled hypertension.
- First patient treated with Scintix biology guided radio therapy. Developed by RefleXio Medical, the therapy treats early and late stage cancer by using the biology of the tumor “to drive its own treatment.” By utilizing the biology of each tumor the right amount of radiation can be delivered.
- World’s smallest heart pump undergoes early feasibility studies. The pump, developed by Magenta Medical, is aimed to be used to provide support to the circulatory system during high risk procedures that open up arteries. Due to the size of the pump, the procedure can be less invasive than traditional Left Ventricular Assist Devices.
Thursday, August 24th
- Sanuwave Health and SEP Acquistion Copr announce business agreement. The merger will lead to Sanuwave having a proposed transaction value of $127.5 million.
- New wearable sensor can monitor sweat while exercising. The device can help with athletic training management and health monitoring by measuring the lactate levels in sweat. It does this by collecting sweat in a reservoir that continually cycles old sweat out and new sweat in..
- Medtronic has a setback with releasing the Syplicity Spryal RDN system. The Circulatory Systems Devices Pane voted against recommending FDA approval for the device. The vote was due to the systems being unable to outperform hypertension drugs.
Friday, August 25th
- Vaxaas receives $3.67 million for vaccine study. The study is for the development of a typhoid vaccine that is delivered without needles. The company developed a patch using their HD-MAP delivery technology.
- Mass spectrometry system introduced by Thermo Fisher Scientific. The system, called EXENTSoultion, is a full integrated and automated system. EXENTSolution is intended to “diagnose and evaluate patients with monoclonal gammpathies.”
- VC funding in medtech rose in Q2 2023 leading to hope in sector. Funding through 2022 and Q1 2023 fell for medtech companies. The funding is predicted to slowly recover through the rest of 2023.
